British Hardware Federation Awards 2012 - Sunday 5^th February 2012 – Totally DIY NEC

The British Hardware Federation Awards were established in 2005 to recognise and reward excellence within the hardware industry. They have grown in strength from year to year and are well supported by retailers and suppliers in the trade.

British Hardware Federation Shop of the Year 2012 – Ludlow Homecare

The judges said: “The 2012 Shop of the Year is Ludlow Homecare whose extensive website says they have “everything for your house and garden – and more”. They have a large garden bentre and DIY Store offering a large selection of DIY and garden products across a broad spectrum. In addition they offer a home care department for bathrooms and kitchens, with all aspects of associated products available for customers. The BHF Shop of the Year has an excellent reputation with both suppliers and customers. They are always helpful and very professional with a well lit and welcoming store. They have a high footfall and are very successful.”

British Hardware Federation Supplier of the Year 2012 – Jegs Electrical Ltd

The judges reported: “This company is a long standing bira Direct supplier, and has been trading for over 41 years. They are a leading distributor of over 13,000 electrical, home, garden and DIY products, and selling only to the independent retail trade. They are renowned for their range, quality, service and competitive prices allowing our members to successfully compete with the multiples.”

British Hardware Federation Best Garden Product 2012 – CK Legend Bypass Pruners

Comments from the judges included: “CKI, who are a bira Direct supplier, are obviously impressing our members with their CK Range of Garden Products as they were winners in this category in 2011 too. This year it is the turn of their Legend Bypass Pruners which are of professional quality construction with drop forged and hardened steel blades for strength and durability. Our 2012 Best Garden Product is the CK5631 Legend Bypass Pruners by Carl Kammerling International.”

British Hardware Federation Best Tool Product 2012 – L G Harris Premier Tool Range

Presenting the award, the judges commented: “This year our winning Best Tool Product comes from another of our bira Direct suppliers, who were also our 2011 Supplier of the Year. L G Harris & Co. Ltd offer a range of over 2,500 products across four brands, and for 2012 our members decided that Harris’s Premier Tool Range should be the Best Tools Product winner. British Hardware Federation Best Member of Staff 2012 – Runner Up - Melanie Preece

Melanie joined Handyman House, Monmouth, in 1986 and was quickly promoted to Assistant Manager. She is a hardworking and very popular member of staff who is responsible for staff training and a large part of the shop’s purchasing, all of which contributes greatly to the success of the business. She has also recently overseen the addition of a successful new kitchenware area.

British Hardware Federation Best Member of Staff 2012 - Pritesh Pancholi

The judges said of the winner: “Pritesh, of Melton Ironmongers, Leicester, now runs the business smoothly and profitably, he has excellent customer service and after service skills and is a lifesaver of the business. His aptitude and attitude for the hardware trade is absolutely spot on, showing an intense interest in the trade. He also is a very diligent, hardworking person who has an amiable nature which is ideal for helping to deal with customer requirements. He is managing the business perfectly.”
