Do you work with a budding young retailer? Do you have anyone you manage who could be a future retail star? Are you that star yourself?

bira want to hear from retailers under the age of 35 who have shown initiative and developed the business they work for. They could be in with a chance of winning a place at the prestigious Oxford Summer School by entering the 2012 bira UK Young Retailer of the Year Awards 2012.

Entrants don’t have to be managers or owners; they just need to be having a major impact on the business they are in. This could be developing the company’s website, improving the business’ marketing or implementing an idea that has led to an increase in sales. bira is looking for those retail employees with spirit, ideas and determination, the independent retailer leaders of the future.

The winners will be announced at the bira National Conference and Gala Awards on 24th April at the Birmingham Town Hall. One will be chosen from every division and they will each receive £500 and a bottle of champagne. The overall winner will receive a sought after place at the Oxford Summer School, the ‘blue riband’ training and development event of the retail calendar, worth over £2,000.

The chief executive of bira, Alan Hawkins said: “This is an ideal way of encouraging and developing the next generation of independent retailers and the award will give businesses extra publicity by being associated with this high profile accolade. The rewards of being the Young Retailer of the Year go beyond the prize itself; it will boost the recipient’s confidence, staff’s morale as a whole and hopefully fuel their ambition to succeed and build a successful career within the retail industry.”

For an entry form and more detail about the awards, contact Event Manager Ian Carr on 0121 446 6688 or e-mail ian.carr@bira.co.uk. The deadline for entry forms has been extended until 9th March and entering is easy. Entrants need to answer five simple questions about why they should win and highlight some of their achievements and contributions to the business.
