Important regulations governing the management of asbestos came into effect in May 2004. It means particular care must be taken when doing something as simple as drilling a hole in a wall or more complicated work such as refurbishing a retail unit. There are important responsibilities on the part of retailers as employers and occupiers to minimise and prevent unnecessary exposure to asbestos.
The best source of information on this is the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Asbestos website - click here to view. The site contains helpful information about the new responsibilities and we would encourage all members to view this site as a matter of urgency.
